I didn't care for them, especially Beth. Bob was Paul's best friend and Beth his girlfriend. Paul started screaming, "I'm sick of your trying to break up things between me and Bob just because you two bitches can't get along. Now let's go." He grabbed my arm and pushed me towards the door. I guess I should explain why I didn't like Beth. Basically she is bi-sexual, while I am not. She had come on to me many times and was not too happy when I did not respond enthusiastically. As a result we were never real tight. But there was something else about her that made me very uncomfortable; something I never could explain, even to myself. Anyway, the ride to Bob's house was not a happy one. Paul said very little to me in the car and drove kinda fast. I just huddled in the corner of the front seat, very cold and uncomfortable. |
When we got to their house, I thought it was rather odd that
there were no extra cars around but
I didn't give it a lot of thought. Maybe we were early. Bob opened
the door, let us in, and shut the
door behind us. For the first time I could remember, he locked
the door behind us. I guess he thought that I
didn't notice.
Beth was sitting in the living room, dressed very much as I was-short skirt, a tight blouse, and heels. Bob and Paul were just dressed like average guys, jeans and a tee shirt. Beth said hi to Paul, kind of ignoring me altogether. Then Beth said something very strange: she said she was surprised I had agreed-just that, no explanation. Paul just shook his head , and grinned, "Well, she didn't actually agree-she doesn't know the whole story yet. But she'll come around-you'll see." I started to get a bit uncomfortable; obviously, they had some sort of secret that I wasn't in on. "Agreed to what?" I asked. Paul explained, with one of those evil smiles he sometimes has, "Look, Ash. We're all sick of this feud, or whatever it is, between you gals. It's putting a great strain on relations between me and Bob, and Beth is tired of it too. She has agreed to make real friends tonight, and thinks a closer relationship might lessen the strain." I flipped. "A closer relationship?' I sputtered.
